I recently asked a question about feminism here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090620103029AAj0ab4
Some of those who answered stated that “some women are forced into pornography.” How so? If they are literally kidnapped and have a gun put to their heads to do porn, then the crime here is kidnapping, assault, and being held against one’s will, not pornography.
Others said that women who choose to do these jobs bring down people’s perceptions of women, thus perpetuating the stereotypes. The problems I see with this statement are as follows:
1. People will always be prejudiced against something, you cannot change that. However, there are laws in place to protect those people. For example, people today are still ******…it is your right to hold that opinion, however stupid it may be…but it is against the law to use your racism and not hire someone because of it. While people will always have their opinions about everything and anything, there are laws in place to prevent these opinions from infringing on the rights of others.
2. The people who hold these stereotypes can share them all they want. Not only is it their right, but this way it lets me know which people I don’t want to associate with!
3. I think the biggest issue I have with women who state the “perpetuating stereotypes” statement is that it negates who you are. I know there are stereotypes against women. I am a woman that happens to have many “male” interests, so I am faced with these stereotypes (I served in the Marine Corps, am into bodybuilding, football, cars, etc.). It doesn’t matter if I’m a woman, it matters if I can do it or not. I have enough self-confidence to let the stereotypes not get to me…after all, why should I if they aren’t true? If you are afraid that the stereotypes will overshadow your personality, then the problem isn’t with the stereotypes.
I know I’m making a lot of statements here, but I wanted to first layout my beliefs on the subject before I ask:
1. How are jobs of a sexual nature somehow worse than a job that isn’t of a sexual nature if a woman chooses that job? Isn’t the keyword here choice?
2. As a woman, why/how do you feel you are affected by stereotypes against women? Remember, people are still allowed their opinions and are allowed to share them…you cannot make a law against people having a prejudice, but there are laws in place to ensure that prejudice doesn’t interfere with your rights (and if someone ignores that law, you can sue them, so don’t use that as an argument).
I hope for only serious answers, no rants or anything. I like to reply via edits, so please feel free to check back.
Thanks and namaste.
@ KATIE W: And if a woman chose to do construction, risks of bodily harm and death are there. There are health risks associated with any job. Even working fast food you could have your hand mutilated by a deep fryer. Are you really trying to suggest that we tell people what they can and can’t do because there’s a risk involved? Better write to Congress about getting vehicles banned.
@ CFC: I don’t believe I mentioned street prostitution…but see above comment to Katie W.
@ PHIL: And that’s all well and good, though not entirely what we are discussing here. As God granted us free choice, I am asking people (feminists) who call for free choice yet condemn some women for their choices.
@ VEGGIE TART: “As I pointed out in your last question, it’s a sad commentary that a woman can make more money using her body than using her brain.”
You and I are women that value knowledge.
Not everyone is like us. There are all kinds of people in all kinds of work. I don’t look down on someone who mixes concrete for “not valuing his/her brain,” just like I don’t look down on someone who chose **** instead of a more intellectual pursuit.
As for “forced” prostitution, the girl being sold should run. I don’t care what the country’s laws are, I’m outta there!
@ JONDALAR: “However, that isn’t the case in Turkey or in Israel. In those countries, most of the *********** are young women who were taken from their homes or while traveling in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, or in one of the countries of Eastern Europe. Some of them were little girls when they were kidnapped.”
The crime here is kidnap and slavery, not ***. That’s what we need to remember. The pornography and prostitution are not the issue, but that some people are so screwed up that they think it’s okay to kidnap someone and sell them to make money. Men are also kidnapped, some as children, and perform hard labor. Some young boys are kidnapped into sexual slavery. Many young boys in many countries are recruited into militaries and often die before becoming teenagers.
As you can see, it’s not a “woman’s issue,” nor is it a “sex issue,” but an issue of sick people doing sick things to other people.
@ ITACHI: Let’s make it clear…I’m not a person looking into these fields and trying to justify it as “feminism.” I’m merely explaining that people make choices.
Everything you listed makes sense (though you negated to list how a male wh*re who sleeps with many women affects the mindset of a woman who’s interested in him); however, every job comes with a consequence. You think I like getting called “baby killer” because I served in the Marine Corps? No…hell, it doesn’t even make sense. But people still do it and I was well aware of that going into the military. Others look down on people who have blue collar jobs.
The problem isn’t with the jobs, but with the social stigmas attached to those jobs. If you’re going to live your life by social stigmas, then fine. I figure as long as you don’t infringe on another person’s rights, you’re fine.
@ JULIA S: “The *** industry, I think, reduces the humanity of women in the eyes of some men. It isn’t really the fault of the women so much as the consumers, but the effect is the same.”
Well, as a woman into traditionally “male” hobbies, I’d better give that up lest someone look at me differently, right?
“When a woman takes a job like that, the audience isn’t going to know that her dancing is for her own pleasure and power.”
Who cares? Are you saying that we should do things to please other people? Let that woman exploit the hard-earned money of these desperate men. Let her enjoy it.
“But that teaches men that women like to be subservient and be “forced” into doing things.”
So men have no minds? They cannot meet a woman, get to know her, and realize she’s not a stripper?
“But there are also men who don’t. And they scare me.”
Not me. I had the privilege of kicking the sh*t out of one such idiot

Ok so heres the deal: Ive started working out at the gym about a month ago. And im definetely stronger now and more muscular then one month ago. Ive also been taking whey protein shakes for 3 weeks now each shake is 138 calories and 40 grams of protein. They taste really nasty but I take them every other day. Ok so to tell u about my body, I am average height for a 14 year old. I am NOT fat, but heres the deal: I have a little bit of fat in my thighs, butt, and lower belly.
Ok so this is the deal right now: I have a four pack, pecks and decent arms, BUT GUESS WHAT my 4 pack is going away, because ive been eating about 5,000 calories a day now. HONESTLY I NEED UR HELP OR OPINION PLEASE.
Everyday I go to the gym for an hour and do 20 minutes of cardio, stretching life 15 pound dumbells, 40 pound weights, 60 pound an crunches and more. I also swim frequently, and participate in physical education. So for some odd crazy weird strange reason, ive been eating ALOOOOOOT more then I usually would. Instead of 3,000 calories a day i eat 5,000 a day. BUT DONT GET ME WRONG, LISTEN UP THE FOOD I EAT MOSTLY FROM: kellogs cereal, tons of apples bananas,, blueberris, blackberries, pears, oranges, kiwis etc, tons of veggies, tons of lean cut meat like chicken and beef. And lowfat yogurt alot of 2% milk, some mozzarella cheese, toast, pita bread, eggs, hummus. Basically healthy foods. No pop or chocolate fastfood pizz burger frie junk whatsoever. But some cereal bars in moderation like Nature valley applecrisp. I have started this massive eating rampage about 5 days ago and I really cant help it. I mean I eat kellogs cornflakes with a bunch of fruit and milk in the morining and an apple. Then I go to workout and I feel lazy and sloppy!!! What the hell? I also feel hungry???? I had a big breakfast today so im pissed off. BASICALLY IM REALLY WORRIED THAT I WILL LOSE MY ABS AND NOT BE ABLE TO IMPROVE THEM (by the way how do i turn 4 pack into a 6 pack????? my lower stomach seems to be more fatt then upper. can I do lower abdominal exercises) IM WORRIED THAT MY PECS WILL TURN INTO MANBOOBS AND BASICALLY I WANNA GET RIPPED NOT FAT.
So thank you for reading this guys I REALLY appreciate it and what do you think please tell me???? Is this natural because I am increasing my physical activity???
Should I discontinue eating so much????
